The Scott & White Family Caregiver Program was awarded the Rosalynn Carter Leadership in Caregiving Award on Thursday, October 22. This is a national award presented annually by Mrs. Carter and funded by Johnson & Johnson.
Alan Stevens, Ph.D, the Holleman/Rampy centennial chair in gerontology, Scott & White Healthcare, and professor, department of medicine, the Texas A&M Health Science Center, presented information on the program at the annual meeting of the Rosalynn Carter Institute on October 22 in Americus, Georgia.
Two years ago, the Scott & White Family Caregiver Program began in partnership with the Central Texas Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and was funded by a $100,000 gift from Johnson & Johnson with supplemental funds from the Holleman/Rampy Centennial Chair Endowment, which was established with a gift from the Santa Fe Foundation. Richard McGhee, director of the Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, provided valuable support to the program.
The Rosalynn Carter Leadership in Caregiving Award, made possible by Johnson & Johnson, recognizes leadership in implementing innovative partnerships between community organizations and caregiving researchers. These partnerships speed the process by which evidence-based programs are implemented and made available in the community.
The $20,000 prize award will be shared by Scott & White and the Central Texas Area Agency on Aging. ”The Central Texas Area Agency on Aging will dedicate $10,000 to in home respite services for caregivers served by the Scott & White Family Caregiver Program. Scott & White will use the remaining $10,000 to continue to the Family Caregiver Program beyond the two year period funded by Johnson & Johnson” said Dr. Stevens.
