Scott & White Healthcare has appointed John L. Boyd, M.D., M.B.A., to the newly-created post of chief executive officer and chief medical officer, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics where he will oversee eight clinics and two hospitals which includes the Scott & White Children’s Hospital program and the Children’s Hospital program at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Dr. Boyd most recently served as chief medical officer at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, a 749-bed teaching hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and associate clinical professor of pediatrics at Creighton University School of Medicine.
“Dr. Boyd brings with him the background, expertise and vision that will help us as we continue to enhance and expand our children’s services in Central Texas,” said Robert Pryor, M.D., chief operating officer and chief medical officer at Scott & White Healthcare.
“It is a significant commitment for Scott & White to establish this position in the executive leadership, and I share the vision of developing our current pediatric program into a state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital,” says Dr. Boyd. “Together we have the capability of providing a premier children’s hospital and program for the children of Central Texas.”
Dr. Boyd, who completed his internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch, received his undergraduate education from Syracuse University and his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He holds an MBA from the University of Dallas in Health Services Management. He also served as assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at State University of New York, clinical instructor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and associate in the departments of pediatrics and anesthesia at Duke University Medical School, where he also served as co-medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
